This search was originally started for my girls, so they would know their story. They are very proud of who they are and where they came from. They, and my grandchildren, have been raised in what we call "the village", so they have the security of knowing their family, both immediate and extended. I am happy to share my family story with the world.
I grew up hearing family stories. One of these stories involves my paternal grandmother, Ethel Wommack (Punk). We were ALWAYS told that Granny's mother was 1/2 Choctaw indian. When I was doing my research I found more questions than answers when it came to my heritage. So I was excited to take the Ancestry DNA test. The results were surprising to say the least. But they did reinforce what my research had found; Granny Wommack was not 1/4 Indian, she was 1/4 German. The only expanation I could find was that with what was happening in the world at the turn of the century, it was safer to claim to be American Indian as opposed to a German immegrant.
